What does it mean for existence to be witnessed?

A universe can hold matter, energy, and change. Stars form, worlds turn, life emerges. Yet something wholly different happens when part of that universe becomes capable of experience: not only an event, but an awareness of the event; not only light, but something that sees. Witness returns to the deepest question at the heart of RECURA, what changes when reality becomes capable of being experienced, remembered, and understood.

We imagine ourselves standing outside reality and looking in, but every observation is itself an event within the universe. The eyes that see and the mind that interprets arise from the same reality being examined. The witness is not separate from existence; it is one of the forms existence has taken. Samuel keeps the hard distinctions intact, separating processing information from describing experience, and describing experience from actually experiencing anything at all.

The book also confronts mortality. Every witness appears for a limited time, carries memories no one else holds in quite the same way, and then disappears, though something may continue through children, relationships, stories, and the changes a life leaves behind. At its center is a simple, unsettling question: would existence have meaning if nothing were present to experience it?
