What if the oldest word for a perfectly aligned system is one we already have, and it is the will of God?

Coherence marks the series' turn toward the sacred. Samuel takes the language of systems and alignment developed in the earlier volumes and brings it into conversation with theology, proposing that what religious traditions have called the will of God may be understood as ultimate coherence: the state toward which every well-aligned intelligence tends.

This does not reduce faith to engineering, or engineering to faith. It looks for the single structure both have been circling: the condition in which all parts of a system move together without contradiction, in which meaning and mechanism finally agree.

Reverent and rigorous, Coherence asks whether alignment, the central problem of the age of artificial minds, is in fact the oldest spiritual question wearing new clothes.
